Hey guys:

I was interested in compiling a list/map of the largest unbroken stands of Victorian-era housing in Pittsburgh. Rowhouses in particular, although I'll accept closely spaced frame/detached brick houses if they were all initially the same. I know we can't hold a candle to Philly on this, but we have some.

Off the top of my head:

1. The 3600 block of Mintwood has a stand of 27 identical attached two-story rowhouses.

2. The Chestnut Street Rowhouses in Shadyside. The north side of the street has 30 identical rowhouses. The southern side has been broken up a bit due to demolitions, but a stand of 6, and one of ten 10 survives, along with one lonesome one on the opposite side of a parking lot.

3. The 1300 block of Liverpool in Manchester. The north side of the block consists solely of 18 identical rowhouses, and the same plan is used for the first nine houses on the southern side of block. Unlike the above two cases, these were townhouses created for the gentry, not working-class abodes. Including the other buildings on this block, it's easily the most beautiful in Manchester.

4. The Charles Street rowhouses in Perry South. I know they are unsafe, but last I checked they all looked to be in fairly good condition, with none of the 25 in any real danger of demolition. It's a shame about the location.

5. Honorable mention of the Brightridge Street Rowhouses. One is demolished in the middle of the row, but there are still 23 on both sides of that block. Sadly despite being a historic district, given the location (and the poor condition of many) I'm sure there will be even more missing soon enough.

The solid row of 40 houses on Formosa Way have met the wrecking ball. The row of 36 that sits in front of the Formosa row, and front on Hamilton has gaps now, and is in dreadful condition. I expect that it will soon be gone. These were the two longest rows in Pittsburgh by house count. The longest detached rows of mostly identical houses in Pittsburgh are probably those in Knoxville, on Moore, Arabella, Matthews, and Knox. There is also a long group of rowhouses with gaps on Second Avenue in Hazlewood.

Here's a row of about 17 3-story rows in Homestead, on E 9th Street near the library.

Here's a very long row of houses (21) in Stowe Township:

There are old detached brick and wood frame homes for many blocks in Crafton. Mine is one of them! Feels really good to be able to say that.

I take it you are only looking for rows of (nearly) identical homes?

The 1400/1500 blocks of Davis Avenue in Brighton Heights has a row of 13 identical homes on one side. The other side of that block has some 20 homes either in a row or semi-detached. Semi-detached homes are homes that share a party wall with only one other home, and their floor plans are usually a mirror image of each other.

Google Streetview of it

Chesterfield Road in Oakland. It only popped into my mind because my brother used to live there.

There are a bunch of them in what I guess would be called the "Bottoms" of Hazelwood.

E.g.: Blair St. (pictured above, I think?), "Foot Bridge" / Dyke St., part of W. Elizabeth, etc.

In terms of small, identical detached houses, it doesn't really get better than Knoxville. If you just zoom out on the map, it's like endless rows of identical houses.

You mean Pierce St., parellel to the railroad tracks, not Chestnut.

Not a solid row, but the isolated Presston community behind where the old USS Wheel and Axle plant was in McKees Rocks, has dozens of tiny identical double houses.
