yeah, i wouldn't want to walk on that part of pocusset. there are deep ditches on either side of the road and nowhere to go if a car is coming.

i used to live on pocusset and our back deck overlooked the parkway - it was noisy but it was kind of like the ocean. except when they were doing overnight construction, ugh!

also it's worth pointing out that the greenfield bridge is going to be closing for a few years for reconstruction starting late next year. that will cut off the quick way to oakland, although the way around is not terribly long.

The OP could walk down to The Run and access Schenley Park that way.

The latest news I've seen says 2015. Please let me know if I've missed something.

christmas week 2014 is what i had heard (that is when they are actually closing the parkway and imploding the bridge, for the least impact on traffic), which is just a hair away from being 2015!

edit: oh i see that say christmas 2015. weird, i just checked and i swear it said 2014.

edit again, this is what i checked before i posted: http://pittsburgh.cbslocal.com/2011/...nfield-bridge/

your article is much newer though, so they probably have since pushed it back.

Wow, thanks for all the responses! They are all very helpful. I've lived in the burbs for quite some time now, so I'm fine with not having much within walking distance although it might be a nice bonus. It sounds like a nice area, but I don't like the idea of the horrendous traffic right outside my front door. I'll have to figure out what side the townhouse is on. On the map, it looks south of the parkway, closer to Magee Swimming Pool.

If you're close to the gas station (and away from the actual freeway ramps), it would be a lot quieter.

That sign has been replaced and the little island there fixed up. There are now pedestrian crossing lights also.
