I lived in Detroit (meaning Detroit proper) back in 2002. As a result, nothing I have seen since has looked like a scary ghetto. I mean, I know Pittsburgh's worst neighborhoods can be very dangerous if you're one teenage thug beefing with another, but in terms of overall menacing nature, they're pretty tame.

seriously, if east liberty is among the scariest places you've ever been, you haven't been outside of the pittsburgh area. or to a lot of places IN the pittsburgh area, for that matter.

i definitely noticed when i moved here (from nyc, and before that i lived in connecticut), people's definition of "scary ghetto" is WAY different from mine. i honestly can't think of a neighborhood here that compares to the sketchiest parts of new haven, or bridgeport. maybe homewood, or the worst parts of wilkinsburg, larimer and hazelwood. maybe braddock, although it's got its own weird thing going on where there's just NO ONE there. even then, i feel a lot more comfortable walking around those areas as long as i'm on a main thoroughfare and/or it's daytime.

I agree, East Liberty isn't scary. I've seen scary. East Liberty isn't it.

lololololol discounting this incident which could have happened at any Target anywhere, what did it for you? EL is one of the busiest and least scary parts of the city. did the Trader Joe's (a #1 indicator of whether or not a place is a "ghetto") freak you out? Did you accidentally walk into Kelly's and get beat up for the way you look? Get charged $10 for a hamburger?

UP THE PUNX!

And the PetSmart can be very frightening. And those strange people shopping in stores and going to restaurants all look a little suspicious. Definitely need a Glock just in case.

The gay couples jogging in rainbow short-shorts can also be intimidating.
