Yeah, what has been posted so far is about it. Unlikely you'll need to go to McKeesport for much - if anything. It used to be a happening place, but not anymore. I've been there many, many times for business related errands during the past several years and never once felt threatened or endangered, so take some of the alarmism with a grain of salt.

As for the school district, like any large school district around here there are good opportunities for students willing to pursue them and who have a supportive home life. Even when controlling for demographics and gender, McKeesport Senior High School is almost a carbon copy of Strong Vincent in terms of student achievement; it is ranked quite a bit higher than East High School (also in Erie) and just a little lower than Central. Erie's other public high school, Northwest Collegiate Academy, is one of the very best in the entire state. Pittsburghers can be pretty harsh when it comes to judging schools and school districts.

Decent area, schools aren't very good as mentioned. The suburbs a little further east just over the county line are nicer if you can afford them.

McKeesport is a large area and it isn't so bad that you need to avoid it at all costs, just stay away from the projects, pay attention to your surroundings, and don't buy (or sell) drugs. I do errands in McKeesport regularly without any concern over life or limb.
