I've seen the same in Nassau. It's still not wise to leap out in front of moving vehicles that are mere feet away.

"I drive really slow in the ultra fast lane, while people behind me are going insane."

In all seriousness though people in western PA rarely seem to stop for pedestrians, even in crosswalks with those yellow signs that saw it is state law to stop for pedestrians. Maybe it is an enforcement issue, because I saw several people get tickets for failing to yield to a pedestrian while living in the Twin Cities.

You're really asking a bit too much! Our police are way too busy drinking coffee and eating donuts!

You seem like the kinda guy who parks in handicapped spaces, while handicapped people make handicapped faces.

To be fair though, at ped crossings not highlighted by the flashing lighted zebra polls, the drivers are just as bad.

Here, drivers seem to be fairly decent about obeying crosswalks that have those portable yello yield signs on them - therein lies the rub though, I think that some drivers only think those specifically designated crosswalks require their caution.

This works a lot better than you would think, but it helps if your motorists don't start out crazy in the first place.

Depends on how they're used. If for instance I see the following I'm going to stop, probably leave the car on foot, screaming in terror as I flee the scene. Highly effective.

I can't see Pittsburghers putting those flags back afterwards.

I think everything here gets down to an enforcement issue. If you see a cop patrolling 376, something is probably seriously wrong, check the news...otherwise, continue to do 80+ because you won't get caught.

Red lights? Downtown, anticipate at least 3 or 4 more vehicles to sneak through after the light has changed to solid red. Why? There is no human enforcement and no cameras at red lights. Crosswalks...who's watching? If you don't kill someone, then you're good.

I have close friends in New York State, North Carolina, and Wisconsin. In New York State you see lots and lots of cops on the highway in general. Red light cameras a plenty in NC. Wisconsin...no one uses a horn...if they do; it's like a fart in church. I know Pittsburgh is no DC when it comes to driving, but it's not this passive little Candyland that some people try to blow it off as. People from cities that have BETTER transportation in general don't deal with the congestion that we do and a lot of them aren't as daring on the roads because they're being watched waaaaay more than we are.
