don't forget to vote today in the primaries, aka the election for those of us in the city and certain suburbs!

school board and council meetings are pretty crucial in wilkinsburg this time around! personally, i'm voting for the NUW endorsed candidates, especially for school board: Neighbors Unite Wilkinsburg

these are the candidates who support district consolidation, which i think is key to wilkinsburg's future. better schools and lower taxes would work toward solving our biggest barriers to investment in the community.

i kind of can't believe dennis briggs is running again after the embarrassment he brought on himself last time:

- he owes over $45k in property taxes, hasn't done anything about that since last election either. and his kids go to private school while he shortchanges the kids whose parents can't afford private school.
- he's said that he got behind on taxes because he lost his job. he lost his job because he worked for penndot and the local news followed him one day and caught him clocking in and then taking his work truck to home depot, buying supplies, and going to work on his house.
- he tried to tear down his opponent's sign at a polling place on election day the last time he ran, and threatened people with violence when they tried to stop him.

there is so little information out there about wilkinsburg elections that a candidate like this can slip through the cracks. i guess that's what he's counting on.

I noticed NUW has no opinion on the mayoral race, such as it is.

I meant the Wilkinsburg mayoral race in the case of NUW, of course, which is really the non-event of the ballot. You can't even get any useful information on the challenger using Google.
