I'm sitting in my office near the top of One Oxford Centre looking down Fifth and Forbes into Oakland. I can see the Hampton Inn, behind which rises a tree-covered hill that I assume is Schenley Park. Amongst the trees, slightly to the right of the Hampton Inn, near the horizon, is a large rectangular whitish building with a black roof. It looks too large to be a private residence.

I live in Squirrel Hill where I assume this building is located and am racking my brain as to what I am seeing. Can anyone help?

Then what he's seeing would be either the condo building on a hill off Beacon Street or the nursing home on Wightman above Beacon.

I looked into both of those, but both seem have flat roofs. The building I'm seeing has a high peaked roof that's a gray-black color.

This is driving me crazy!

The clubhouse of the Schenley Park (O'Connor) Golf Course?

Could it be Beth Shalom synagogue at the top of Beacon at Shady?

Good suggestion. I think that corner is the highest point in Squirrel Hill.

Upon further inspection (with my glasses, but what I really need is a pair of binoculars) I think you guys are right and it's either Beth Shalom or those condos immediately adjacent.

Thanks!

It could be the Morrowfield Apartment building (2715 Murray Ave if you want to look it up on Google Street's View).
