Read all about it from Chris Breim.

Apparently we have the sixth-largest "daytime surge" of people (compared to nighttime population) of any city in the country. This is testament that compared to many other metros, an unusual number of the jobs have remained concentrated within the city core.

Interesting article, I guess this shows a difference between Pittsburgh and cities such as Detroit and Cleveland which also have small city populations compared to the metros. I guess their jobs are more centered in the suburbs in comparison

My understanding is of the 100,000 or so people who work downtown, over half use public transit. This isn't shocking, given there's only 38,000 parking spaces in or near downtown, which means (logically) much more than 38% of people can't use a car to get to work, unless there is hella carpooling.

I'd expect transit usage for jobs in Oakland is also fairly high, although I'm not aware of any statistics. Using transit to get to jobs elsewhere in the city is fairly dicey.
