WPXI added some info to their story. Look at that, a pattern of now 3 jewelry thefts from salesmen in the last couple months: ‘Significant amount’ of diamonds stolen in street robbery | www.wpxi.com

If they are connected, someone in the jewelry world has tipped them off about the salesmen's identities. Probably the same jeweler who their fence for the diamonds. It's a win/win for all involved. If I were the cops, I'd be looking for a connection with all of the salesmen's clients, but they probably have all of the same clients so maybe that won't work. Regardless, I'll bet someone in the jewelry world is behind this. Unless these robbers are just sitting across the street at the Wood Street subway station watching who comes and goes from the Clark Building and then following them wherever they go.

They keep updating the WPXI story. It was updated again even since I posted it above.

The salesman told the police that the diamonds are insured...

Please.
Just don't carry a "considerable amount of diamonds" in your backpack and you'll be fine. I find an old Walmart bag is usually sufficient for transporting my diamonds.

It sounds like he lives in Gateway Towers and was in the parking garage unpacking his car after just returning from a trip.

Finally, a complete account. All the little conflicting details were annoying. WTAE for example made it sound like he was changing the tire before he was robbed.
