I love the 4 seasons, but what's there to enjoy with over 150+ days of rain and 200+ overcast days in a year? I know some people don't mind it and some people actually love the weather here. That's great for you! Maybe I'll appreciate it more one day but sorry 45% annual sunlight just doesn't cut it anymore. Way too grim
Where are you heading for better weather? Sorry if you mentioned it and I forgot. Just wanted to warn you that the PNW wouldn't be for you. It's very cloudy and rainy over there. Yet somehow it has a temperate climate and very low humidity.

Open the section under Retirement Locations and you'll find all sorts of suggestions of places that would work well for people 40-50 and older. Many retirees need cities where they can pick up jobs as needed, so the cities they like might also appeal to someone who isn't yet retired but thinking about a town that would eventually become a retirement town.

ps. I'm proud to say I've suggested Pittsburgh in a few of those threads, too. It's got a few drawbacks for retirees but in many ways is a great choice.
Thanks. I'll check it out. We've pretty much decided we'll stay here for now. I'm in the process of trying to land a wholesale dealer distributor here for sure. Nobody in the area carries this product yet. I might not get it because someone in Beaver county has it and their territory might extend to Pittsburgh. (Granted, they're not doing a good job of getting the product out!) If I can't get this territory, I might consider our relocating to an available territory if it makes sense. I'll know in few weeks one way or another.

Why wait over a year? Just do it.

I have college friends who have threatened to move from their deadbeat home towns since they were freshmen. They finished college and went home. Every year they're going leave 'next year'. They're all still there. Threatening to leave ....

Things rarely get easier if you wait.

Job situation.. You can't just pack up and move until you have a job lined up somewhere else. I am thinking down south. Heat and humidity don't bother me though. I don't mind the occasional gloomy day and 2012 wasn't too bad, but every other year seems to be way too gray.

I guess if you're a teacher or some other profession that has 'seasonal' dependencies, that makes sense. if you're not, 16 months to find a job sounds a loooooooooooooooong time. All my friends are always about that long from moving on. Always ....

Don't discourage him or your friends. It's good to have goals.

Sounds like you've got a lot of good reasons to stay in da Burgh, Plus, good pierogis and it's a pretty cool town. I think you'd miss it.

i'm working on relocating now; for me, it's just the desire to be closer to my family, although there are things that i am excited about in the different places where i'm looking. if i could move pittsburgh (and that includes wilkinsburg) closer to the important people in my life, i'd just do that. i really like this city and i'm glad i came here pretty much on a whim 13 years ago. i get kinda misty thinking about leaving.

The southeast can get a lot of rain too. Maybe you would like places like AZ and New Mexico.

I am farther west in the St. Charles, Geneva Batavia corridor. I love Evanston but we work in the burbs so we didn't need to live close to Chicago.
