We're moving to Pittsburgh area this summer, more specifically Canonsburg. What kind of area is this? We're also considering ares around Canonsburg, any recommendations? We have 2 young kids so schools are important.

Thanks for any ideas.

What is your budget? What kind of place are you looking for? Canonsburg is in the Canon-Mac School District. It is okay. Nearby you have Peters Twp. (also in Washington County so lower taxes than Allegheny), South Fayette (Allegheny County- higher taxes) and Upper St. Clair (Allegheny County- higher taxes). All three are very good schools, with SF and USC having an edge on Peters. Peters and South Fayette have more rural spots. Peters has a mix of older and newer housing stock. USC probably has a little older housing stock. South Fayette has a lot of newer housing.

Thank you! We're hoping to stay around 250k (4BDRM, 2+ BATH) but could go as high as 325k.

That budget's more doable in Peters and South Fayette than in USC. You're also likely to get more house for your money in Peters or South Fayette. We built our house in South Fayette for a little less than your upper number. I don't know where you are moving from, but also keep in mind that our property taxes are higher than many other places.

Another good perk about living in the Canonsburg area is proximity to Sarris Candies!

The little ones will love you if you bring them there!

Sounds wonderful! Do you happen to know how it compares to See's Candies on the West Coast? I've been hoping to find a local company that I like as much as See's.

I've tried Sarris candies, and they are good, but NOTHING can beat See's!

I'm not familiar with See's, so I'll defer to goodgirl49's opinion. I still think with you living so close to Canonsburg, Julie, it most certainly warrants a visit. I really love the atmosphere of the old-fashioned ice cream parlor and the candy store, complete with the chocolate castle! The last time we were at Sarris's we had milkshakes, and they were very refreshing.
