I'm intersted in a property that is approximately where Clover St. meets Arlington in what looks to be either the St. Clair or Southside section of the city, not far from the Monangahela. Does anyone know what the neighborhood in this area is like? Thanks. -- Dave in NJ

That almost seems like it would be Mt. Oliver, which can be kind of rough. You might want to do the Street View function of Google maps and "drive" through the neighborhood.

And just for reference, what the google map won't really show is topography--the South Side is at river level, and the intersection you're looking at is probably several hundred feet higher, on a ridge above the river.

Yeah that's close to where the old Arlington projects used to be. Not real familiar with the area, but I know Mt. Oliver/Arlington isn't the worst place in PGH, but it's certainly surrounded by some bad spots. St. Clair Village, Allentown, Knoxville, Beltzhoover and Carrick are generally considered rough areas. I would advise you to get a feel for the neighborhood and see if you feel safe just driving around the area (you should), but just be aware that the neighboring areas seem to be regressing pretty rapidly. Gang rivalries seem to be the root of most of the problems in that part of town, and from what I've read there's a big time "gang war" going on between the various neighborhoods that I mentioned before. Like I said I'm not sure exactly how much these problems extend into Arlington/Mt. Oliver, so you may just need to find the rest out on your own.
