I know, I know, it's hard to believe we're not posting another doom and gloom thread to this board, but...

Millcraft to break ground on hotel-office complex in Downtown Pittsburgh - Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

The above is about to get off the ground, sounds great!

I know. I don't get the doom and gloom some have taken this thread to lately. It has made me not want to come here and instead go to Skyscraperpage for Pittsburgh discussions.

This forum is starting to turn back into its old self.....Doom and Gloom, Pittsburgh sucks threads.....For a while there it was very engaging and productive and the Negative Nancys had left as their constant "boo hoo" everythinng attitudes garnered little if any feed back..True some of the Negative Nancys never left but still their constant pessimism was mitigated.

Well certain contributors left and the Negative Nancys have returned turning the forum back into the alls Doom n Gloom, Pittsburgh Sucks again....Amazing how that happens so quickly.

I'm sure a couple of our doom and gloomers will turn up in this thread any minute now. Interestingly, one of them started two D&G threads on Sunday, and the response was mostly teh sound of crickets. With luck, they'll fade away again ...

It seems like every post from Debbie Downer and Negative Nancy is confronted by me and you. Just give it time, zman and pghdude will tell us that its architectural features are sub-par or they are further delapidating something else to derail this thread. Just wait.

I think the design in aesthetically and structurally unsuited to the dire Pittsburgh weather

It's so gloomy that it doesn't matter what the design is, because you can't see the building when the sun's never out.

It does sound great! Hopefully the office portion fills up. I am hopeful that the city will turn a corner and shake the bad for business label once and for all.

This project was delayed because they were seeking state help in getting it off the ground. I guess they pushed the dates back from the original December 2011 article.

Millcraft Industries to Break Ground on $76.6 Million Office and Hotel Project, Market Square, by Midsummer in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; Plans to Open the 175-room Hilton Garden Inn Hotel by March 2014 / December 2011

We have the best office market in the country. Our vacancy rate for class A space is unheard of.

Thats true. A lot of it has to do with the smaller and mostly vacant older office buildings converted to residential. I am not sure of what they classify the old 30 story alcoa building. There is nobody in there right now. The old verizon and state office buildings were vacant until they were converted to residential. Naturally the class a market will tighten because of this. Less office space to choose from. Investing in residential downtown was the best idea this city has had in years.
