Whenever a local company gets a new CEO, I fear the new guy will move the headquarters to NYC.

Exactly. He's already looking to the backhanded hope that USS leaves. Maybe they'll leave for Raleigh, Columbus, or Salt Lake City -- which are cities that zman seems to think are doing MUCH better than Pittsburgh. The fact that those three cities were mentioned just makes me L...O...L.

US Steel has not made a profit for a few years now. They are trying to remake their image.

There may not be a HQ to move. US Steel appears to be on a downfall. Who knows if it will exist in 10 years? The stock shares were 196.00 a share in 2008. Today they are a little over 18.00 a share. If they don't reorganize and revamp they may go extinct. I have heard rumors that a US Steel Plant in the Pittsburgh region and Philly areas may close over the next year.

Reorganization and reinvention are needed in all large enterprises in response to constantly changing circumstances.

The fact that US Steel spiked so high in 2008 and dropped 90% since doesn't necessarily indicate it is about ready to collapse. Markets fluctuate, and the highly increased price in 2008 and subsequent dip was more likely due to temporary excitement in X's future prospects or technical reasons like too many investors be required to cover their short positions.

US Steel wasn't the only company to have that happen... In fact, most steel companies had the same type of drop in stocks.

Examples: ArcelorMittal; 2007 stock ~ $117; 2013 stock ~ $13
ATI; 2007 stock ~ $100; 2013 stock ~ $26

Both of those companies are still successful today. The difference is they adjusted to the times and understood how to manage through an economic downturn. US Steel management did not know how to adjust and they are paying the price for it.
