The made almost 30 million in 07-08. They're one of the most profitible teams every year. They'll also be receiving 25 million just in tv money alone. Bet they don't put it into talent.

Don't know but they better keep drafting right or it'll be 20 more years.

gortonater, you might find this interesting, it's more analytical than your usual count-the-runs-on-the-scoreboard stuff.

The Pirates have sucked for years because of poor baseball decisions. They have corrected many of those poor decisions with new people and it has been paying off. They have invested in their farm system and are actually drafting the best available players now. Trades have actually payed off as have free agent signings.

Spending big money on big named players certainly does not guarantee success (see also the New York Mets). Smaller market teams have to be smarter with each decision and they have done that.

Exactly! The people complaining never can tell you how the owner was supposed to spend this money. Should he spend it all. Is it a crime for a business owner to make a profit? Please, tell me what Nutting should have done with this supposed 30 million, and I don't want to hear about stuff that happened before he took over.

Clearly they should have traded Starling Marte and Taillon for Justin Upton, like everyone wanted them to do last July.

Supposed money? Its all public information. Dont forget the extra 25 million theyre getting this year. The found a nut in 20 years. The bottom line is you don't gloat after being one of the worst teams in sports history.

Its great that its happening, however, they will be back in the same losing situation in a year or 2.

Again, no suggestions as to what they should have done with this money, and how it would have resulted in a good team.

methinks erieguy and pghdude28 must be related

I was in WA when the Mariners went from a leading play-off contender for 2-3 years to their now Pirates-esq status in a decade. That was sad - no idea why though. Let's keep fingers crossed for the Bucs. They're doing something right this season, for sure.

My only suggestion was not to gloat after 1 winning season. Its obvious yours and a few others standards are so low that you feel they've done the right thing for the last 20 years and failed miserably till they found 1 nut. When they're back to their losing ways in the next year or 2 then maybe you'll understand 1 winning season every 20 years or even every 7 years does not a successful franchise make.
