I've been in Las Vegas for 28 years and considering moving back to the Pittsburgh area. Dealing for over 3 years, (had a managerial casino job for 25 years) I am seeking information about The Rivers and/or The Meadows Casinos.

Primarily, I would like to know what the average dealer's tokes are, and opinions on Rivers/Meadows as an employer. I currently deal Black Jack, Roulette, 3 Card Poker, and Ultimate Texas Hold 'em. Would this be enough games to get hired? Haven't dealt Pai Gow or Baccarat, but have extensive knowledge of both. No Craps knowledge :-(

If you have direct knowledge, but don't want to post publicly, I welcome personal message.

Thank you in advance. Lets go Bucs!!!!

Over at the Rivers, they can't be too happy- the union is trying to get a foothold in over there and apparently has at least some support.

I'm non-union here in Vegas....neither Rivers or Meadows unionized? Doesn't really matter to me. I've worked most of my years non-union. I worked a short time for US Steel in their clerical union and it was a joke! Protected those that shouldn't have been protected and eventually lead to mass layoffs and terminations. Money and benefits were great, but most workers did nothing for 8 hours, then wanted to work overtime.

The Meadows is unionized, the Rivers is non-union and UNITE-HERE is attempting to get a foothold over there.

I don't know much about the casinos. My girlfriend works at the Meadows casino, and she likes it there. The Rivers must be needing dealers because it has a "casino dealer school" advertised on Indeed. Since you have so many years of experience in Vegas, it's worth a shot contacting the casinos. Pittsburgh doesn't have lots of people with experience dealing. The casino school is an attempt to fill a dealer shortage. If you want to come back to Pittsburgh, it seems your skills would be needed.

Depending where you want to wind up in the "Pittsburgh area" the West Virginia casinos could also be an option. Wheeling Island and the Mountaineer are only about an hour away from Pittsburgh.

Yes, if they've opened a school for dealing, seems to be a need.
I would like some specifics about their tokes/wages.
Good idea about WV!
Thanks to all for information!

If you are looking at a slower paced job dealing cards then The Meadows would be the choice in my opinion, but if you want a faster pace with more headaches then choose The Rivers. I know 3 people who dealt at both casinos and they stated that the biggest problem is the lack of consistent play by the locals. The dealers know to make money your going to have to work every weekend night, because starting Sunday evening through Thursday the tables are pretty much dead, more so at The Meadows then Rivers. Just picture places like Aria, Bellagio etc during the same time frame under normal operations. So remember both unionized operations mean lowest on the totem pole gets the slowest days and hours.

Basically the same is true in Vegas....the money days/nights are weekends: Fri.,Sat., Sun and Holiday Mondays. Agree unionized companies would give those with more seniority priority of working days. Thanks for input bmark131!

Knowing I was looking at moving to Vegas this fall due to several work opportunities, which by the way were very good but family life is keeping me here until at least next spring. Can I ask why you want to move back to Pittsburgh after so many years in Vegas?
