I live in an apartment complex. The apartment building has an exterior magnetized lock. It is broken, so the door does not lock and anyone can walk in. Entrances to the units are interior, so my apartment has its own lock. What I want to know can I still consider this a "health and safety" issue and request my landlord fix the exterior door lock fairly quickly or is it not my issue because my individual apartment is secure?

Of course you can tell your landlord about it, and indeed you should as a good tenant.

And unless your apartment building is a real dump, the landlord will probably be out there pretty quickly.

Good luck!
Getting things like that fixed are rare, especially if you are in college rentals or subsidized housing.
