Fix themselves? Never knew of anything to fix itself...

What do you like do to outside of school and go to the bar? Maybe if we knew some specifics about your hobbies we can point you in the right direction. There are plenty of options, sometimes they are just obscure and not well known, so these forums can really help.

Also, I have some friends I wouldn't mind getting rid of if you are interested.

I'm sure Pitt has some sort of support for older/non-traditional/commuter students.

Pitt has like 300 different student groups and organizations. If you can't find things to do or people to hang out with, even at the ripe old age of 29, it sounds like a personal problem. Between grad students and nontraditional students, there are plenty of people your age and older. You don't seem at all interested in the advice given here. I don't doubt that you are having some transitional issues. Pitt has a counseling center available to students, you may want to check it out for help working through whatever personal issues you are going through.

honestly between work and school I don't have much time to go to social things for grads et all.

ill be honest im not fit so hiking is well.. a workout. im going to sign up for a gym, but that doesn't mean I don't want to go do social things. im a bit out there, but not the type of guy who will go to a festival alone.

by fix themselves I mean me fixing them and some stuff out of my control. life isn't nice at times and whatever you feel will make you happy will ultimately make you not happy. that sort of stuff

So what ARE you doing to change your situation? People aren't just going to walk up to you and become your instant friend. It doesn't sound like you want to make any effort.

If you can't find friends or an activity at a large, diverse population university like Pitt, then it isn't going to matter where you go. It isn't the city.

most of mine is due to financial issues. ive been busy with work and school that im trying to find social things to go to in my spare time.

I do have friends, but ive said they live out in the suburbs who I see maybe on the weekends. id like to meet new ones in the city.

im a very out going guy especially when I have a beer in me lol.

Join meetup groups. They have some that are basically happy hour and/or beer/wine groups and some that are just general social groups. You'll meet people. The Pittsburgh Beer Meetup is one of the largest groups here.
