Sounds like a win-win for Greyhound and the Latrobe Airport as well as the traveler who have new options.

Agreed. Its honestly a pain in the a** for people in the city to get to Latrobe. This should increase their ridership even more than it already has.

How is Spirit as a carrier? I've heard some horror stories, but I've never had a problem with bargain basement carriers in Europe, so I'm just curious as to how it compares. With this service in place, I'd definitely consider it for trips to Florida, or to see if it works as a cheaper alternative for getting to El Paso via DFW.

Long as you know what you're getting into, Spirit should be fine. Just know what you're getting into, i.e. lowball fare and everything costs extra, including carry on bags I think. Seating is tight, but many others are not much better. Biggest problem would be in case of delay you'll be entirely at the mercy of their smaller operations. This doesn't always result in a worse outcome, but sometimes it will.

I've never taken it, but Westmoreland Transit will also take you from Pittsburgh to the Latrobe Airport.

Horror stories abound.
You get what you pay for....

If you plan accordingly and know what you are getting, you will be fine. A couple I know just booked flights from Dallas to visit in December for $156, round trip.... total for both. The parking is free and easy to get in and out. My neighbors take it to Florida.... no problems yet.

Right, but I wonder how many of those horror stories are from people who have no clue what they're getting into when they choose to fly with a bargain basement airline. As someone who has ample experience with such, I'm wondering if Spirit is somehow terrible even by those standards.

IDK -
cancelled flights, involuntary bumping, missed connections... sounds fairly terrible to me.
