I need new, replacement windows. I live in the Pgh area. I have 23 windows to replace, plus screens. I presently have wood windows, but might go with vinyl depending on the cost. This is a big expense I need to make affordable. I'm looking for the best value for my money. Is there a good company you can recommend? I have an appointment with Pella, but am told they are really high. Thanks for your help.

what do you think is high or reasonable? just off the top of my head, I would guess low end replacements from pella or similar is going to run about 8-10k installed/finished. if you want andersens or something of that quality I think you will be over 20k.

We did Thermotwin. Quite a bit cheaper than Anderson, the other people we talked to. They seem fine.

I second thermo twin. I've also heard good things about Champion.

I would like to spend less than $10,000 if possible. Thanks everyone for the suggestions.

That may depend on how many windows you need replaced and how big they are.

Okay, Thermo Twin is pretty good. I would recommend Dan as the installer. Installation is very important.

Enjoy.

If you have wood windows, why not just repair / paint them? Vinyl replacement windows are junk. If you really want them, I believe Window World is less than $200 per window. I put four of them in my last house and they seemed fine for what they were.

I know in our case the windows were left to rot with a lack of paint, poor weather seal, etc... I'm going to try and save our wood windows but there are probably 5 that are beyond repair, including some of the more decorative large panel windows. It's a real shame but they are sometimes beyond repair. I'd like to get a good wood replacement but doubt I can afford it.

Thermo Twin does make wood replacement windows FWIW. Not sure what your home is like, but in most cases a color would be better than white. The Pittsburgh white window is sure ugly! Some homes look good with the white of course, but for the most part color is better than the white crappy look.
