You're right.

For me, Pittsburgh just seems to be unique in the degree of concentration. The divide seems more pronounced here, to me, than in the other city/metros I'm familiar with. That is to say that both the degree to which the crime spills over into the everyday resident's life and the number of neighborhoods significantly effected by crime seems significantly lower here to me.

Of course, this is just my observation, so it's not worth too much in a practical sense, haha, and more pronounced or not, I do think you are correct that this is reflective of a broader general trend.

The "we only shoot our own" ethic is very strong in neighborhoods here.
