You can say that about most newspapers. Anything free is going to be full of ads.

Listings and syndicated crap is part of why I read those papers.

im from the dc area and yes, they have better choices for steak joints than capitol grille. I guess by Pittsburgh standards they are the holy grail...but I disagree

Dude. It's a buncha people casting votes to the City Paper, not Michelin or Zagat. It's not about Pittsburgh standards, just about what is available here. There has been tremendous growth and improvement in different restaurant in this city over the past few years, but this place being much smaller than DC, they are still far less numerous. And none of the new places has been a steak speciality restaurant that I'm aware of. I'm sure a few do a mean steak, which works for people in the know but doesn't work for general mindshare in voting for a "best steak" place.

In other words, don't read too much into a general public restaurant voting contest, especially in this case. I get more dismayed when they vote things like Eat n Park as best breakfast but even then, mindshare tends to win out over the little place that not everyone knows about. Sometimes they get it right, but it would be more by accident.

Yeah, it's like getting overwrought about the winners of the "Peoples Choice Awards."

This all makes me wish there was a "Best of PGH - City Data Edition" where the voting for all these categories was limited to our group of posters.

I'd love to argue with you all about why Mineo's isn't the best pizza, or whatever, haha. That would be fun.

The best steak I've ever eaten was a filet from Ruth's Chris Steak House, once in DC, and again in Philadelphia. However, I'm not much of a steak fan; those who love "real" steak mock those of us who like filet, saying it has no flavor. So take my turn on this as you will. YMMV.

I was part of the customer test group before the Capital Grille opened in DC in 1994, so I got to eat a lot of their food. Nothing I ate there was bad, but nothing is memorable years later. The filet from Ruth's, OTOH, stays in my mind as the best I've ever eaten.

And Captain Pittsburgh, you will get no argument from me about the "bestness" of Mineo's. It simply doesn't exist.

Yes. This is like quibbling about someone being included in the "Who's Who of American High School Students." It's meaningless.

actually im not angry or anything. i just found it odd that most places folks rave about here, i tend to find bland. Compare to places i went to in san diego or even DC itself, i was never dissapointed,

i find myself liking a place better in this city by not seeing how folks rank it and has worked well for me. doesnt mean im not going to go out and try places

although i want to go to that place that serves breakfast on the weekends where its packed. was on man vs food with the giant cinnamon rolls lol.

Me too--plus it's funny how often I read 'em for the ads, too. Ads are annoying right up to the point you happen to be looking for something. Or even just something to do.

Big Shot Bobs is a great wing place. I hope it expands into the city.
