Hi everyone, I'm moving back to Pittsburgh soon and I'm really excited! My husband and I are looking for a house in a decent school district. It would be amazing if we could snap up a house in the Mt. Lebanon, Fox Chapel, Bethel Park, South Park, or Avonworth school districts, but if I'm being more realistic, we can probably afford one in Keystone Oaks, Baldwin/Whitehall or Shaler School districts.

Where would you live out of these three (Keystone Oaks, Baldwin/Whitehall or Shaler), and why?

Personally the only place id buy in allegheny county is the north hills. The other areas you mentioned have taken a nose dive or are islands in a sea of decay.

If you are interested in Avonworth, it includes Emsworth which is older housing and probably quite affordable so keep that in mind. If you are looking at Shaler, you may also want to consider North Hills (Ross Township + West View Borough).

Thanks for the reminder about West View and Ross, PenguinsFan. We rented in Mt. Lebanon before and liked the feel of a dense suburb, and I think West View would fit that bill. And North Hills seems like a good school district.

Definitely Shaler. West View and Ross are also good options.

All those four are pretty much the standard 1950's era car suburbs. For whatever reason this forum loves Shaler.

However, Baldwin has it's own farm which is pretty awesome.

That's pretty cool, but we can drive there from anywhere.
