so we have 7 appointments for this weekend in the north hills/ross twp area, will let you guys know the follow up

btw, what do you guys think is a reasonable drive in the morning on 19/279 in the morning, Im talking distance wise....7-8 miles? Google Maps sometimes has those drives at close to 20 mins during "current traffic"....would distance of apartment to parking lot of >10miles push the drive to be too long in the morning?

We can't go by miles. It depends on the specific roads you need to take to the main routes. As with any part of the Pittsburgh suburbs, the closer you live to a highway entrance, the faster your commute. I'd say that almost every part of Ross Township can commute downtown in less than 30 minutes during rush hour. There are side roads that can avoid the highways if traffic gets backed up. You'll learn all the little short cuts after you've been here for a while.

It depends on the lot. I don't know if they all have shuttles right at them. I always parked at the one near Heinz Field. The shuttle stopped right there. It literally just loops across the bridge. 10 minutes might be cutting it too closely depending on if you just missed the shuttle. You'll have to walk a large block to get to the building and get up the elevator to your office. If you're the type of person who wants to be in the office 10 minutes prior to start time, I'd plan to hit the lot 25 minutes prior to start time. That way you'll almost always get there early but you'll have that extra 10 minutes just in case. You'll get a feel for it quickly and adjust accordingly. I like arriving early to grab breakfast. I just want to point out that commuting by bus won't likely improve this since the bus might drop you off downtown 25 minutes early.

You're overthinking this. Since you're worried about this, just start out leaving your apartment in Ross and hour before work your first day. You'll quickly learn how much to adjust your departure time. You'll probably be door to door in 30 to 40 minutes. If you live in the closer end of Ross, it could be as little as 15 or 20 minutes door to door.

General Robinson by the football stadium and North Shore garage by the baseball stadium. Both likely have a long waiting list by now. General Robinson garage is right above a T station, a free T ride from there will take you to the front door of your office building. North Shore garage is great if you don't mind walking across the river, it's about 7-10 minutes walk from your building. Getting a garage lease there guarantees you a parking spot, game day or not. Show up late, on a game day, without a lease and you are most likely out of luck or pay game day parking rate at best.
so I called alcoa today, only the north shore garage and slot 5A have monthly leases available. Is there a T/shuttle available from there?

With these wait lists, Im actually beginning to wonder if I should do a park and ride and take bus to city.

I recommend doing both. Park and ride for a week. Drive, park, take the shuttle for a week.

That way you're not committing to a lease until you've decided which you like best.

It's the perfect solution for the indecisive.

Just to be clear. I do not believe that Alco provides a free shuttle downtown ever since the completion of T extension to the North Shore. Things may have changed recently, so just call them and ask.

There is no T station near the north shore parking garage and it's not practical to walk to one as it's just easier to walk straight downtown from there.

Lot 5A however, is right next to Gen. Robinson garage and the T station.
