They need to be razed, with new more contextual structures built in their place, but I don't see a snowball's chance in hell of that happening.

I could see someone like PMC swooping in on this one and renovating these buildings, however ugly they are. The nearby commercial district is on the upswing, and these are totally walkable to downtown jobs. I also bet the undeveloped parts could be built upon down the road. A bit of infill.

I'd say that particularly Building 3 and 10 fit very well in the context of the community. The modern-style buildings with the parking underneath, and the side streets in front of them works out fine with the multi-lane road ringing around Allegheny Center. Looks like it belongs- the taller apartment buildings are like book ends for the office buildings and the large office mall in between.

As far as the apartment buildings themselves, I thought it was very comfortable living in Building 10, 20 years ago. Large windows, plenty of closet space, rooftop deck and parking underneath, I didn't have much complaint.

they could probably be retrofitted. the worst buildings are the ones on the north side but yes, as currently configured they are atrocious. whoever that that wall was the right way to front a city street should have their architectural license revoked and a plaqu put up to toast their incompetence. the design of allegheny center is mind bogglingly terrible and acts like a giant wet blanket on the north side. of course, the mall is hands down the worst part of it. the sale can only be a good thing as the current owners clearly do not have the wherewithal to alter the buildings
