Hi, me and my husband and are 7 mo old are planning on moving to New Kensington soon and neither of us know anything about the area. If anyone knows about if there are a lot of jobs in the area or if its a good place to raise a child. Is it a friendly place or should we keep looking? Like I said we dont know anything about the place so any and all info would be great. Thanks.

i live not too far away. New Kensington looks kind of... bad, but isn't quite as bad as it looks. when i say bad i mean run down. the crime is relatively low compared to other areas. The schools aren't terrible, and a nice thing about it is that it is in westmoreland county, which has a lower sales tax. if you don't mind living in allegheny, i would check out neighboring plum borough. the schools are slightly better, lower crime, nicer feel. I don't know what kind of jobs you are looking for, but unless it's a service type job, you'll probably have to commute into pittsburgh. Neither place has many jobs, but they are suburbs.. what else could you expect?

If you're raising a child, stay away from New Ken. Unless you don't mind your child growing up mingling with riff-raff. Granted you will have that just about anywhere you go, but it's predominantly so in the New Ken/Arnold area and school district.

I don't have any experience with New Ken, but don't ever move anywhere that you don't know anything about. Chances that you'll be sorry are high. Do some research before deciding where exactly you will move.

oh, c'mon!

This post is almost two years old.
The OP either moved there or didn't MONTHS ago.... no further advice needed.
