I don't see the similarities between the Occupy protesters and those questioning UPMC's non-profit status. The Occupy movement was largely ambiguous in its target of the "1%" or large corporations. Those that are questioning UPMC's tax status are asking a specific question: How does a company awash in profits get to claim itself as a non-profit? Surely you are willing to ask this question before generously suggesting that your fellow city residents agree to massive tax hikes?

No. What was accomplished, other than the green space near One Mellon Center being destroyed, ironically, by people who probably promote "green" lifestyles?

What exactly does the Occupy movement have to do with this? I don't recall their being an overarching theme in the protests saying that corporations should not be considered non-profits. Also, I don't know what the fascination with UPMC is here since many corporations have skipped out on millions in taxes locally.

Like I typed, if you are dead set in a tax hike to magically repair the roads throw some donations around with your own money.

Just got off the bus on Brookline Blvd and there are signs posted that the city is going to be resurfacing it tonight and tomorrow night. I would assume they are just milling it down to the base, but it will be a huge improvement until they can pave it in the spring.

They milled Centre Avenue between Whole Foods and Highland Ave. yesterday and it made a world of difference. That stretch was a series of craters. They'll blacktop it in the spring.

Well it looks like they posted the signs on Brookline Blvd Wednesday stating it was to start Wednesday night. By 7 am on Thursday the signs were down, and nothing has been done to the street. Not sure what to think about that one...

I wish they would do this to the entire East End.. But seriously, the cluster**** intersection of Baum/Centre/Negley/Roup is a disaster. I have called 311 multiple times and haven't seen anything done about this area.

Well, if there are any potholes remaining (yes, I drove over one this morning getting off the parkway), here's some new ways to use them... Look At The Crazy Ways These People Have Found To Reuse Potholes On City Streets | Co.Exist | ideas + impact

"When two photographers drove over an enormous pothole while visiting their hometown of Montreal, they couldn’t stop thinking about it-- not how to fix it, but how to turn it and other potholes into a photography project.
The scenes in “MyPotholes,” shot in streets in New York City, Los Angeles, Toronto and Montreal, are wildly imaginative takes on what a bump in the road might be: A dog wash, a baptism, or a drowning swimmer being rescued on Baywatch. In all, the photographers created 18 different detailed scenes, brainstorming concepts as they drove and noticed potholes."

I know exactly what you're talking about.. the one at the intersection in front of the Aldi? I was there not too long ago and was astoned how giant & deep that pothole. It would take 2 of my heads to fill that.
