im kinda tired of using the gym on campus especially dealing with bratty teens/20 y.o so i wonder whats out there?

im beginning to miss my old xsport fitness in Merrifield since that was 24/7 and i used to go at midnight or so when no one was around and be left in peace to workout.

so.. any recommendations other than walk up and down streets with a higher grade than 3 incline? lol

I know that the Fitness Factory on South Highland Avenue in Shadyside is 24/7. Planet Fitness in Edgewood Town Center is also 24/7, and it's also cheap. A colleague of mine enjoys working out there. The Shadyside X Gym on Walnut Street isn't 24/7, but it's pretty close if I'm not mistaken. A former colleague of mine belonged to that gym and liked it.

Given my hectic work schedule I also prefer to exercise at "odd" hours, so I'm also curious about what others recommend. My friends in Squirrel Hill wanted me to join the JCC, but I'm pretty sure their hours aren't the best and they're not that cheap (not to mention having to pay for parking). My boss has always liked Club One Fitness near Penn & Shady, although their parking lot is almost as crazy as the Whole Foods parking lot. I'm also curious about the L.A. Fitness locations in both Bakery Square and South Side Works.

ideally id like to pay under 40/mo it seems that the la fitness in bakery square commands a 45/mo and its hours sucks, especially towards the weekends( closes at 9pm fri, 7pm sat-sun)

the southside one isn't like the bakery square one and its 15/mo cheaper (no bball courts, pool, etc)

i heard club one is expensive too

Tired of the Pete? Come on Barq! haha just kidding, I know your pain.

Seriously though, try Trees gym; It is older equipment unfortunately. Still is free for students (even us grad students), and is ALWAYS empty.

I'm a member at Shadyside X gym and really like it. Virtually 24 hours, decent equipment for cardio/weights, and lots of classes. I find the folks friendly too. I pay 40-ish per month on a 12 month deal. I'd recommend - you can go along and try out for free.

LA fitness in bakery square aint bad...been a member there for a year. I pay $35/mo and they have everything.

Never wait for equipment. A pool. Racquetball. Bball court.

You could walk in and get a free week trial membership I think.

Edit - Not 24/7. More like M-F 5-10, Sat/Sun 9-9.

If I could get the university gyms for free, I would not waste my money. Think how much you could save in a year if you put that 40 in the bank.

I just noticed that they're turning the old Filene's at the Waterfront into a Crunch Gym, but I have no idea about rates or whatnot.

Homewood has a YMCA. That might be in your price range.
