ive been to montreal and Toronto and ill be glad to never go back to any place in the providence of quebec again. Montreal/quebec is the Canadian version of Texas. ive never met so many snotty French Canadians in my life who refused to speak English especially in montreal. I guess I can see why even Canadians dislike folks from montreal as well.

but I did enjoy my time out in Calgary for some reason.

My vision of you is now complete. This post is perfect! I now have a complete vision of you. I am sure you don't understand. Why would you? What is the formal language of Montreal? Why should they speak YOUR language? Oh my, where to start? It is YOU that emulate Texas folk, not them. Last I checked they are…. well in their OWN country and YOU are a visitor there. Should they change their language knowing that you are in town? Please don't visit Paris. We already have a bad enough reputation.

actually both are the official languages. BOTH, unlike here down in the good ol us. there's a difference.

don't visit paris? the French people laugh at French Canadians. they don't think they are "real" French and can tell if they are local French person or from Canada (since france has different dialects)

I haven't been to france and don't plan to. I don't find it interesting really. Been to England and such and my next goal is to go visit Germany.

Here's someone who visits Toronto and brings back some restaurant experiences to share.

Food Collage

Scroll past the first one which is a new place in Cranberry and there are several Toronto reviews in a row. Looks like her last trip there was in the summer, not sure, although she calls it semi-annual suggesting twice a year visits.

My 4 days in Montreal early this month were fun, but it was work and very cold, so hard to get a deep impression. We ate at a very fine French restaurant, good Italian, sampled the brews in two excellent microbreweries, and found some real coffee. I'd love to go back for fun. In several conversations with the locals (who all spoke English to me happily), I had many recommendations for Quebec City. Sounds olde worlde European. We must go ...

I've been to Toronto & did not find it compelling enough to care to go back to (nothing against it, I just find find other Canadian cities much more interesting & Toronto blah)
this thread is just an extension of toronto's "hey, notice me" psyche.

i think it is a remarkable city - no doubt. the fact that it is so populated yet the crime is 1/5 that of its oft-compared to cousin, Chicago, says something (thats a huge discussion about history, demographics, sub-cultures, etc.) positive. they do have thuggery there, though.

i dont visit because its been there/done that. i have a huge family there. i had been there so many times for work or family that the thought of dealing with 401 and Keele Street traffic makes me heave. its one thing to go to see theater, or to party or get your gay on, but another to be an ordinary torontonian, most of whom do not live in the dense old center, but the sprawling former boroughs.

its great if you are young and you drink and go clubbing and are exploring the world as your oyster, but otherwise, its like most other places - its as good as you make it.

i cant believe people describe it as beautiful. sure, like many other cities on this awesome continent, it has beautiful things, but overall it is drab. not old and run down like 1/2 of pittsburgh, but just...gray, dull, uninspiring, like a Sim City road view feature.

Funny, When we were in Toronto and told people we were going to Montreal the next day, they told us not to go and we would have a terrible time. We got to Montreal and found everyone very nice, welcoming and willing to work through the language barrier to help us. People in Montreal told us not to go to Quebec city because they were not kind to english speakers up there.

This kinda stuff happens everywhere. I find its better to experience places first hand rather than let decisions be driven by random encounters

I really liked Quebec City...that is place is more French than the French. You really feel like you're in another country there.
