The great thing about a renovation project is that often you can walk away from it and start again another time when you become frustrated. With a window, door, or a roof not so much.
Heh, I hear that last bit. I never get anything finished because of this.

As far as I know it is possible to get prehung doors that will be appropriate for a 120-year-old house. My understanding is it's easier to work with a prehung door than it is to match up a door to an existing jamb. The exterior door particularly would seem like a candidate for a prehung, but even with interior the prospect of matching up the hinge mountings and such usually means a prehung door is easier. Or so I've been led to believe, anyway. This is not at all from personal experience, of which I have none.

You may want to seek out someone who specifically deals with that sort of issue for an old house, although I wouldn't know anyone to suggest. At the very least, I'll bet if you search for the relative merits of prehung vs not for entry doors on old houses you will find some info.

Absolutely for the bolded. That has been my experience. It's definitely easier to tear out the old frame and rebuild. The better quality wood doors can be ordered prehung.
