That 7 minutes is in the middle of the night! Heavy rush hour was about 25 minutes, but that's becoming 15-20 minutes with the elimination of the lights on Route 28. Google directions for Allison Park and Pittsburgh. It says 16 minutes. When there's no traffic, I can be downtown in 7 minutes. Why? The speed limit on 28 is 45. Ha! I don't drive 45 on highways.

The ol' "oh it only take 15 minutes to get over ehre" when in reality it's about 25+ is a well earned stereotype. Today I am going to start a timer as soon as I leave and calculate the total time it takes me to get from my desk to home.
I'll give you that much. I'm not talking about to my desk. I'm talking about to my parking place in the parking garage closest next to the building wherever I work. I never went straight from my house to my desk. I get breakfast once I'm downtown before I head into the office.

For the most part, commuting on 28 now is pretty easy. I can get to the Highland Park Bridge in under 10 minutes and then it is probably little less than 10 to downtown. However, that is to the edge of downtown.

When I lived in Point Breeze my commute was brutal. I was too far form the Busway and the drive to and from downtown was tough. When I lived in Squirrel Hill the commute home was brutal.

I would look at some traffic sites to see if and when there is a back up on the outbound side of the Squirrel Hill tunnel.

I have heard a theory that the tunnel is only part of the problem, and the other part is the tieup with the Edgewood ramp. This is all the more reason to live in Regent Square where you can at least take the Ardmore exit in the evening and cut over on Rebecca if you have to.
