I can't imagine what is ingrained in the carpet, sheets and covers of a $40 hotel room.

Well try to imagine it, and realize that it will also be true of the $140 room.

I think that they clean the more expensive rooms more thoroughly.

You keep on telling yourself that if it makes you feel better.

It is unlikely to be consistently true though. One example story: Dirty hotels: 6 germ hotspots to worry about - CBC News - Latest Canada, World, Entertainment and Business News Note how the sample Sheraton scored worst in 3 of those, with the sample Super 8 scoring best in 4. Their testing includes Fairmont as a high end brand.

In this article from their earlier test a housekeeper at the Sheraton explains how it's not possible to complete everything in the rooms in the allotted time. Hotel room tests uncover high levels of contamination - Canada - CBC News

I really don't want to know. I never watch these sweeps stories on the news about stuff like this. I've stayed in hundreds of hotels from cheap to expensive and I'm still alive.

Oh me too. Well, I don't know if I'd say hundreds, but probably in the couple hundred range.

I'm only reacting to the idea that anyone thinks it'll be cleaner in significant terms at a higher priced hotel.

ITA. I would never ever watch one of those stories. The first time I visited a Pittsburgh dh booked us two rooms ( one for our teenagers) at a not so nice hotel. If we hadn't arrived so late and weren't exactly rolling in extra money I would have insisted on looking elsewhere. But it was cheap and clean and we all lived. We drive by it now and smile.

The Omni has cleaned up a bit since then though
