I'm still looking for authentic Amish whoopee pies.

Authentic Mexican food isn't necessarily better than the inauthentic, and just because it is "authentic" doesn't mean you'd want to eat it.

Quality transcends "authenticity" in my book. Just because your taco doesn't taste like it was prepared in Cancun, doesn't mean it isn't good eating.

Anyone know where I can get tacos al pastor? That's what I miss most about the taquerías in Chicago. Las Palmas and the Reyna's taco stand both have carnitas, but not al pastor. I know Vicky's on Smithfield had them, but I don't know if they are still open at all, and if they are, I believe they are only open for lunch.

What about the original little El Campesino in the Jonnet Plaza? That used to be pretty good for border stuff, but it has been many years since I have been. The Rey Azteca in Sumerset is actually very good. Good service and good food. Sure it isn't like the Mexican food I got in Mexico. Down that way they would have a little grill going and wrap some meat with sauce/peppers and you would just eat a bunch of them. Sort of like a little soft taco. It was pretty cool down there to drink a few beers and just snack about. I was the only non Mexican in the places I went and they were so friendly and cool. Sure was fun.

When the weather is nice an Amish family sells vegetables and some prepared foods, including whopee pies, right by the library in Squirrel Hill.
You're welcome.

Is it a sin that I like Las Palmas and I liked Chi-Chi's too?

my dad used to own a very successful(even today) restaurant in the 90s before he was screwed out of it by his co-owner. I think the concept would work here, and I think the east end could be a nice spot for it.

El Campesino is still there, but they moved to a much bigger place in the same plaza. They were better when they were smaller, or at least it seemed to me. The service definitely declined. We just go to Rey Azteca now, so I'm not sure what El Campesino has been like for the last year or so.
