We just relocated from Chicago and looking for Authentic Mexican restsurants. This does not mean franchised places. We have only seen a Tex Mex place and heard about the Taco Truck. so far. They have to be out there! Thanks.

Round Corner Cantina in Lawrenceville is obviously a bar, but their food is great too.

It's not a full-scale restaurant, but Las Palmas in Brookline is a Mexican grocery store with a taco stand. They serve authentic tacos there, starting at $2 apiece, and the reviews have been very positive, even from people with more refined Mexican tastes. It's worth noting that they don't accept credit cards at the taco stand, but they do in the store, so you should either bring cash, or pay for the tacos with groceries inside and show the receipt to the people working the stand. Apparently they have a location in Oakland too.

Compared to Chicago, Pittsburgh's Mexican population is tiny, so authentic Mexican food options are limited, unfortunately. Most of the Mexican population in the area lives in the South Hills neighborhoods of the city, plus some of the inner southern suburbs.

Pittsburgh has several Mexican restaurants that have been very successful over the years- the Franklin Inn, Jose and Tony's, Mad Mex.

"Authenticity" is where you're going to have to have a problem in your quest. Successful restaurants prepare meals that their patrons like, and Pittsburghers haven't developed a taste for the "authenticity" in their Mexican grub that perhaps restaurant patrons in other cities have. Maybe this is a niche that some businessman might want to try and fill.

But what is "authentic" Mexican food anyhow, Mexico is a large country just like America, and I doubt that the food is the same in Tijuana as it might be in Monterrey, Juarez or Acapulco.

As authentic as it gets: El Milagro - Beechview - Pittsburgh, PA | Yelp El Milagro in Beechview. It's a "restaurant" in the back of a mexican grocery in our only Mexican neighborhood. I would also recommend Casa Reyna in the strip: Casa Reyna | Pittsburgh's Premier Mexican Grocery | Wholesale Outlet I think most people who say there is no authentic Mexican in Pittsburgh have probably not tried these places.

El Burro on Federal St. has the closest tacos to the ones that I've had in California. My wife, who's from the Bay Area approves and she hates almost all Mexican food in Pennsylvania.

I'll be googling these today! We are living near Whitehall and have heard of the town so will now see the distance. We love Mexican grocery stores so those will be a priority. I wonder if for some if I request ceviche would they make it? Just a thought.
