So I got a new job in Moon Twp and the traffic is worse than I thought it would be going back home to the North 28 (Harmarville) area in the evening. I leave later in the morning due to the flexibility of my job so my morning commute is actually not bad (35-45 minutes depending on weather/incidents) but the drive back home has been at least 1 hour and 15 minutes going back every day.

Now, this isn't that bad compared to other major cities I've commuted in for a 30 mile drive. However, I have to believe there may be an alternate route or tips/tricks to cut my commute in the evening back home down.

I have been driving in the Burgh for over a decade and I am well-versed in the East side of the city but not so much with the West side such as Moon Twp where I work now. I know that Rt 28 is one-lane still near the city so that backs things up and I've been tinkering with alternate routes around that but nothing really great.

I would love any alternate routes, tips, tricks to cut down my traffic time in the evening. If my request is in vain I guess I could just leave work later

NOTE: I've attached a Google Maps picture of my general route.

Thanks for any help!

Get Off at 79 and Head North and go through the west end through the Corliss Tunnel and hop back on Fort Pitt Bridge. It saves me 20 minutes of Green Tree Hill sitting. I like driving and some of the roads are very steep and curvy so its more fun and time goes by quicker driving that rather than sitting.

Why not take Cemetery Lane and cut over to Millvale and get on 28 up there. At that point you would avoid the single lane. It would still be about 30 miles. I don't envy your commute.

I remember when I lived on Mt. Washington, my roommate worked in Moon. It would take him a roughly an hour just to do that drive, and that's maybe 13, 14 miles? It all depends which way the wind blows for the day. Sometimes inbound 376 is crawling clear from McClarnen Road, other times, you're smooth sailing clear until Green Tree. You never know what's going to happen on that road, that's for sure.

Agreed on how unpredictable it is. I've been blessed to work in Cranberry for most of my career, the Turnpike (76) was worth every penny.

But no, we won't want a beltway. It'd be a big dumb waste.

Haha.
