I heard from a good source that "Howl At the Moon Dueling Piano Bar" has bought out Bossa Nova and will move into the seventh st location this summer. Sounds like a solid addition to Downtown. I have been to a Howl at the Moon one time in Philly and it was a fun time. Definitlely nice to have a live music venue within the golden triangle.

Howl at the Moon is ok, though it's much more of a Shadyside or South Side venue. Unless the young kids these days are increasingly schlepping downtown for fun and revelry?

Howl At the Moon in Louisville is a distinctly older crowd. Say 35-45. I'm not sure how that compares to their other locations. It seems like a Station Square type of place to me. Or SS Works.

The one in Philly is very "young twenty-something raucous," though given that it's a national chain (I didn't realize they were everywhere until I checked their website), I could see the vibe varying from place to place.

I agree- I don't see that working there. You need a consistently busy crowd for such places to work which I don't foresee happening.
How many dueling piano bars are there here (I can think of 2 - Sing Sing & Charlie Murdoch's)

It is better than the space becoming vacant in my opinion.

I'd give it about a year. If anywhere, that belongs in station square. I think those places cater to large groups that drink a lot, so they probably are going after convention business. Can't see it being that big of a hit though, those places get old really fast.

How about a new place with actual good live music instead?

Is there still that dueling piano bar down at the Waterfront? I was taken there on a first date a while back, and it was like being trapped in an interminable wedding reception DJ-ed by a second-rate radio morning show crew.

I don't know if it will fail or not. I respect that point of view. I just would assume that they did their homework and see potential for Downtown as a destination. Downtown is most definitely better evenings and weekends than it was five or so years ago. With all of the projects in the pipeline in the form of housing and hotel rooms, in addition to all of the other amenities, Howl at the Moon decided to roll the dice.

Bossa Nova's website says that it is under renovation and will be reopening in May.
