Hello forum folks! I am moving to Pittsburgh this summer and wanted to get some collective fora input on neighborhoods to check out. I am looking for a one bedroom apartment, not necessarily particularly jazzy, but preferably free of critter infestation and nearby 4am parties. Like a little bit more of a fun/local feel and some places to walk a large mutt.

A bus line that could take me to Pitt would be a huge plus as would a Muay Thai/Brazilian Jiu Jitsu studio within a reasonable distance. Due to appearance, my dog does generally fall under breed restrictions for folks that do use these (not sure how much of an issue this is in the Pittsburgh area).

Any suggestions to look into (and avoid) would be greatly appreciated!

You can live pretty much anywhere in the city for $1,000 a month for a one bedroom. However, it's hard to find places that allow dogs, especially large ones.

For neighborhoods, I'd suggest Shadyside and the South Side. They are both fun neighborhoods with tons of amenities, as well as parks or trails to walk your dog. Shadyside is right next to Oakland, so there are a lot of buses that can get you to Pitt. On the South Side, I'd look for places in the eastern half of the neighborhood (higher numbered streets and addresses). There are two buses that go from the South Side to Pitt, and they cover 18th-28th streets.

I've always had success finding places on Craigslist and PadMapper. PadMapper is nice because you can view a map or all the listing that fit your criteria. You can even refine your search to only include places that allow dogs (it's under the "show more filters" button).

Here's a list of higher end apartments downtown that accept dogs.

Those might be over the OP's budget, but Craig's List has ones that accept dogs too that are in the OP's price range.
