Map: Which Pittsburgh roads will be paved in 2014?

Very East End centric, but I'll admit that the worst potholes I've seen this year are in the East End.

The pot hole filing crew just came along our street. Some big 'uns to fill, so will be interesting to see how long it lasts, Will know from this post

Parts or road through Schenley Park have already been resurfaced. Makes my bike commute less bumpy for sure!

I'm glad East Liberty is getting so much attention, given what horrible shape the roads are in.

Although I'm not sure North Highland is going to make it another year without spontaneously combusting.

Not happy that my street didn't make the cut since there are ruts in it that are at least a half a foot deep but glad to see North Ave get some attention. I hope that they pave it with something quieter. The traffic riding on the concrete on most of North is so noisy from the huge granularity of the aggregate that you can barely have a conversation while you're walking along the street.

I couldn't possibly be any more thrilled overall with the list from an East Ender's perspective. Fifth Avenue between Amberson and Morewood in Shadyside (where I blew out two tires and where other fellow motorists also blew out tires back in January) is being repaved. Also being repaved is the messy section of Shady Avenue between Forbes & Northumberland; the bad section of Beacon between Shady and Beechwood; the pothole-ridden stretch of Darlington between Murray and Shady; Bigelow Street in Greenfield (already in progress); Mossfield Street in Garfield (I believe that, too, is in progress); Chislett Street in East Liberty between Black and Stanton (direly needed); Bigelow between North Craig and Bayard (pretty bad shape); and a few more. Then there are some that leave me scratching my head. The 28th Street Bridge in Polish Hill is slated for resurfacing, but I don't really think it needs it (not to mention the epic gridlock that will ensue once that is closed). Ditto Herron Avenue in Polish Hill by the gay leather bar thingy (hopefully they won't be closed simultaneously). I believe Bennington Avenue in Squirrel Hill is also slated to be repaved, but not only does it not really seem to need it but it's also a very low-traffic street (maybe it's Peduto paying back a supporter?). I don't know why Frew Street is slated to be repaved behind CMU---it doesn't seem to be in rough shape at all. It definitely DOES need a double-yellow line painted, though, so people stop almost hitting me head-on.

The East End, by far, is the one part of the city that seems to be the most burdened by surface street congestion, and, as such, is the most likely candidate to have roads that are in the worst condition. South Side traffic jams along Carson Street, Hot Metal Street/Bridge, etc. can be epic, too, but neither of those roads seem to be in very poor shape at all. I've never experienced bad traffic in the North Side or West End (albeit as a caveat I have not ventured into the West End Circle area at rush-hour since West Carson Street has been shut down in the Esplen area).

I'm so glad all of those "patch humps" I'd always kvetch about having to dodge across from Phipps Conservatory (by Flagstaff Hill) are gone! Now I just have to dodge the people who drive 10 miles per hour and weave errantly as they pay more attention to looking for a free parking space than driving!

I'm sure North Highland will make the cut for next year.

I'm also certain Beech Avenue will be paved in the next year.

Brookline did pretty well for being barely considered as part of the city. Edgebrook, which looks more at home in the hills of WV than in the city of Pittsburgh, Whited, parts of Pioneer and the Blvd.

Brookline Blvd by far was one of the worst streets in the city this year, and is still often used as the backdrop footage on the news.

It still pains me to see them milll streets down to the Belgium block, that is in perfect condition, and then cover it with something that falls apart so quickly. I know people say it is harder on cars, but if people slowed down it is not so bad. My SUV does fine on Belgium block, I can barely tell the difference between that and the smart car I am running over.

While they are at it, bring back the streetcars that ran on all of these never need paved again streets and that solves the lack of availablity of public transit in most neighborhoods. At what point, and I know the history of why and how, did paving over perfectly good roads and streetcar lines seem like a good idea????

I can't believe Idlewood Road isn't on the list. It is a mess of dangerously deep potholes (the ones closest to Morange practically form a trench). When it rains, it's impossible to differentiate between puddles and potholes. The road sees significant traffic, including commercial traffic leading back to Cellones Bakery, Robinson Pipe Cleaning, etc... I've got to imagine it sees far more traffic than some of the minor streets being paved in Greenfield, Bloomfield, etc... I'm a Crafton resident however so I assume my complaints would fall on deaf ears

That being said, the whole argument that East End roads take precedence because they are more highly travelled doesn't hold water. Quite a few of the roads on the list are minor east end streets that see little traffic.

Can't ask for much more after buying a house than a brand new road.
