Hi I am looking for dental and vision coverage for myself and my family. I am a self employed entrepreneur, living in Pennsylvania. Thank you in advance for your help.

I can't speak for PA, but my husband and I own our own business in California. In all of the years we've been in business and buying our own health insurance, dental and vision have NOT been worth buying. We have good teeth and eyes and the monthly cost for insurance would be FAR higher than just paying out of pocket.

For instance, my last quote for dental was 130 a month for the two of us -- 1560.00 a year. Total paid to the dentist for everything -- twice yearly cleanings, bitewing x rays, checkups and one broken filling -- 748.00. Also keep in mind -- with insurance you almost always have a deductible you pay out of pocket.

I can't remember vision...

If you have an insurance broker, that is the person to check first.

Most dental and vision insurance comes as a rider on your insurance...what it amounts to is a discount on those services, not actual insurance. But check with your insurance broker. I have Davis Vision and United Concordia as my vision and dental carriers through Highmark.
