You sleep on the job during your regular forty hours, necessitating the overtime!

first of all firemen dont make time and a half or double time we make master firefighter wages unless we are assuming the position of an officer secondly we are exempt from standard overtime laws we are allowed to work 52 hours a week without receiving overtime then we fall under a federal law called flsa which states that after we work 208 hrs in a four week period that everything after the 208 hrs will be paid at time and a half also there was a settlement recently that exempted captains and above from receiving the flsa compensation so they received a lump sum which is why you see such high wages for some captains and chiefs just wanted to set things straight

You do not seem to understand how to use punctuation. This is very difficult to read. I just wanted to set things straight.

first of all firemen don't make time and a half or double time. we make master firefighter wages (firefighter with 15 years on the job who isn't an officer) when we get offered overtime unless we are assuming the position of an officer. secondly we are exempt from standard overtime laws. we are allowed to work 52 hours a week without receiving overtime then we fall under a federal law called flsa which states that we can work 208 hrs in a four week period without overtime. everything after the 208 hrs will be paid at time and a half. also there was a settlement recently regarding captains and chiefs. they did not receive the flsa compensation. they received a lump sum payment for past overtime which is why you see such high wages for some captains and chiefs. just wanted to set things straight.

I'd rather hire more firefighters or purchase new equipment, then continue to pay bloated overtime wages.
