Map: Most gay-friendly neighborhoods of Pittsburgh

Quote:
Every dot represents one household where respondents identified themselves as living with a same-sex partner.
I wish this was explained a little more clearly. Does the American Community Survey differentiate somehow between couples in a relationship and roommates? I really don't understand how the South Side Flats and Oakland don't even register a blip? It would be interesting to see a map showing percentage of gay households.

This kind of thing is extremely difficult at best to figure out with a survey, especially in a place like Pittsburgh.

Most Pittsburghers tend to keep these things close to the vest and don't care to discuss private sexual matters with government agents.

I believe they took this info from the long form survey from the 2010 census, where people could check the box for "domestic partnership." So it only shows couples as opposed to single people, since the census doesn't ask for individual sexual orientation.

I'm kind of glad that Pittsburgh doesn't have a gay ghetto. They may have been needed back in the old days, but when you go to one that still exists like the Castro or Church Street in Toronto, it's like going into a time warp to the
70s.

I've always said this. I've always like that Pittsburgh doesn't have one specific gay neighborhood and that's it. The establishments are spread throughout the city which in turn promotes integration.

You both realize, don't you, that the only reason there's never been a gay "ghetto" here is because there was never a critical mass of gay people? Pittsburgh was a place gay people left, not one they moved to. It's not the mark of superiority you babygays position it as.

Seriously. Who goes around knocking on doors asking "excuse me, are you gay?"

Isn't the whole point that it should not matter?
