From what I gather, and I don't know the EXACT specifics, but they kindly demanded yearly "donations" equal to the tax base from a lot of their non-profits that turn revenue. lol.

From today's Post-Gazette:

Quote:
A city controller's office audit found that tax-exempt organizations owned $3 billion in untaxed property within the city, on which they otherwise would have to pay $32 million in property taxes, including $8.3 million by UPMC.
... if the city was able to tax non-profit organizations.

Which is funny, because if they were taxed, the city would get like $250 million every single year.

And of course the idiot mayor you all re-elected things such an agreement is a great idea.

Perhaps Boy Mayor and UPMC discussed this during the little golf outing they sponsored that he went on earlier this year.

I know cities are cesspools of corruption, but this place really takes the cake.

Disgusting!
How interesting.

round and round we go.
UPMC employs some 40K in Pittsburgh. By far the largest private employer in the city.

It's just a fact of life in the new economy. These four letters on the US Steel building, that can be read from across the city, sum it up well.

It's the Eds and Meds that are keeping Pittsburgh afloat.
