Hi all! I'm from Ontario, Canada! Planning to meet a friend by the fountain next week - any suggestions on the best nearby place to park my car, and is it possible to walk from the parking spot to the fountain (and if so, how? lol - Google maps isn't much help. It won't show me anything beyond Interstate 279... and I'd like to drive to PA with a rough idea of where I'm going, lol.)?

Really appreciate your help, guys.

P.S.: Any quality restaurants and hotels nearby you'd recommend?

Thanks!

Park on the North Shore. Take the switchback ramp on the North Shore beside the Del Monte building, across the Fort Duquesne Bridge, right into Point State Park. Try Stone Neapolitan Pizza in Gateway Center at the face of the park.

There's parking downtown in easy walking distance to the fountain. Try Gateway Center Garage on Liberty Ave or Gateway Towers Garage on Ft. Duquesne Blvd or Commonwealth Parking on Commonwealth Place.

Or just look at the map here:

Park in one of the garages at Gateway Center. If the Pirates are playing, you don't want to go near the North Shore. There is an underground garage right near the entrance to Point Park. You can walk to the fountain in 5 minutes from there. Of course you will pay more for the convenience.

It's been 30 years, but I liked the garage at Stanwix and Ft. Duquense, the one that the shooter uses in Jack Reacher.

Park at the Stanwix Street garage or the Gateway garage on Liberty.

Since you're arriving from out of town, I don't recommend parking on the North Shore.

A question from another Canadian....

Of all of the parking garages that have been mentioned, how many are operated by the city , as compared to how many are private business operations ?

I ask because here in Toronto, the city parking authority operates many parking lots and garages, as well as pay parking in all the city parks, to raise funds that go into the city treasury. The rates are about half what the private operators charge, per hour. And the on street parking payment kiosks are on every business street, and the enforcement officers are everywhere.

I see many complaints here about how your city has no budget for basic city services, like garbage collection and street cleaning. How about raising revenue from parking meters and parking lots that are city operated ?

There is a public parking lot right across from the Post Gazette on Commonwealth Place, virtually in Point Park.
