I never lose sleep over the loss of surface parking in prime urban areas like some people did on the North Shore because of "tailgating"etc. I suspect some will question this "Where You Gonna Park?" concerning this development also. I am sure the Penguins and the developers thought of this. They are called parking garages, and provide a more efficient use of parking in urban areas by providing more spaces in smaller areas. They can even be aesthetically pleasing if done right. Speaking of US Steel, do you think that maybe they will up their game in the design of their headquarters for fear of being put to shame by the Starchitect on the adjacent property?

Well, we can hope, but it doesn't seem like they care too much about how it looks or fits into the surrounding area.

1. Don't have reliable public transportation;
2. Can't afford in-town parking at $18 a day;
3. Or no longer fit in downtown garages.

On some days when I've had a doctors appointment before work, if you get to town at 9:30, every garage near BNYM and UPMC is full. Even if everyone who parks at the civic arena site could fit into garages downtown and could afford the $18 a day, it would only further congest the downtown streets which are already at an almost standstill at 5 pm. That lot currently serves a pretty good purpose, and I just hope they can replace most of the spots with a garage that will be cheaper than the downtown garages.

The lot also serves attendees at hockey games and other events at the Consol.

I suppose people could park further away, and spend more money, but that would seem to just make it a lot more expensive for men to take their wives and children to see hockey games.

Nonsense. Everyone's going to go to hockey games on their bicycles.

I wonder if any women ever take their husbands and children to see hockey games?

What an odd way to word a sentence, specifying that men take their wives and children to hockey games.

On days that I need my car after work, I park in the Hill and walk to my office. Only about a 15 minute walk to my office near the Courthouse. No meters, no permits, and frankly aren't many other cars to compete with for parking.

With the price of Pens tickets, I don't think people who are splurging for 3 tickets are overly concerned with paying a few dollars more for parking.

Speaking of Washington Plaza, I just noticed today that it's been renamed City View. I can't believe they didn't call it CityVue.
