Why, it's almost as if there is evidence of a direct link between wealth and educational outcomes in America!

I beg to differ. I paid $45,700 for a modern, 1K ft^2 home in Etna. I'm in a better school district than if I'd bought across the river in Lawrenceville and I paid probably 1/3 of what I would have to purchase in Lawrenceville itself.

Crafton has good schools and reasonable housing prices. It's also close to downtown and an easy commute to the airport.

Shaler is not a crappy school district. It's an average school district.

Noted! Since our SF representative made the move from SF to Crafton, that neighborhood has been on my radar. Ingram is a new one for me. Looks very similar. It also looks kind of elevated, up on a plateau? At least based on a few minutes of google mapping.

First I've looked into Bridgeville before! Looks like a little bit of commercial stuff there as well.

Seriously? It's one of the few cities in the U.S. where those two things have a shot at going together.

Ingram as two parts, with a steep hillside in the middle. Both parts are nice. The upper part, along W. Prospect Ave, tends to have some of the bigger, grander homes. The lower part (closer to the shopping plaza) has smaller homes for the most part. I actually prefer the lower part as it has a more old-time, cohesive neighborhood feel.

One thing to note, Ingram lost their neighborhood school last year. May not be a big deal for you as the education is still good but the kids are now bused out of town to another location in Montour. We almost closed on a home in Ingram a few years back but ended up in Crafton. We would have been upset to buy in Ingram and lose the community school. I know Crafton came very close to losing their elementary school too but vocal community support managed to save it.

I think "not too expensive by Pittsburgh standards" is a pretty vague.

The median home price is 140,000 and the median income is 40,000 but about 50,000 if you include the 7 county metro area.

If you make 60,000 and have a down payment it is surprising how much house you can afford here.

Yikes! "our SF representative" So much responsibility. Not sure if I can handle it.
