Which parts of Pittsburgh are most walkable, have good schools, and are not too expensive for housing? Not too expensive by Pittsburgh standards, not by national standards.

I have a feeling there are many like this, but would be interesting to hear which names are thrown out there the most.

Sharpsburg is in a good school district, is walkable and has inexpensive housing even by Pittsburgh standards.

Yeah, actually that whole side of the river seems to fit well, doesn't it? I mean, Etna, Blawnox, Milvale, Aspinwall, etc.

No.

Aspinwall is expensive, Millvale and Etna are in a crappy school district, and there is nothing to walk to in the topographically challenging location like Blawnox.

That's exactly the kind of stuff I need to know! Didn't realize that at all, about those respective areas. For whatever reason, I just assumed they were all in the Fox Chapel area, which always seems to be rated high.

Looking at the map now, O'Hara might have been the other area I was thinking of, for that area.

Agreed. Montour is good and Carlynton is decent and improving. Both neighborhoods are very walkable with about as convenient a commute downtown as you can have outside of the city.

Crafton has a high quality housing stock at low prices (though admittedly not as low as they were a few years ago). But you will probably find some of the best housing values in the area here.

Bridgeville is not bad either, but public transport to town is limited

While Shaler isn't a top school district I wouldn't call it crappy compared to other districts.

Good schools and not expensive don't go together. At least not here in Pittsburgh.
