Zillow is pretty useful as long as you take the estimates with a huge grain of salt. The estimate for my house has jumped all over the place over the last five years.

thats an area you should research yourself and it isn't hard.

just see whats sold there recently and do honest comparisons. see whats up for sale and isn't selling then you know its too much. the market doesn't lie, if its priced right it will sell.

sure there are areas where there aren't a lot of houses and its a little harder, but for most properties its pretty easy to get a better idea of worth than a 'zuesstimate'

I think that Zillow has its usefulness, but I think a combination of sites works best, as they typically have different strengths.

Btw, Zillow bought Trulia recently...

I guess that their customers aren't taking the numbers with a grain of salt.

I used Coldwell Banker's Pittsburghmoves.com. It has very good search options and filters. I also like Zillow for the reasons others have stated. A combination of sites, including city-data forum, was really helpful to me to learn a lot about various neighborhoods and boroughs along with home values. When you live far away it's invaluable to have these resources. I was able to gather a ton of info and narrow my search which meant fewer cross country trips to house hunt.

terrible decision on their part. Fact is that zillow gets more use than just about any other real estate site. People love using zillow for a number of reasons and even if its not perfect, there is no reason to limit your own exposure.
