A new license would have to be created afaik. Not an easy task. Maybe a special license like vf convention center.

On the grounds that they paid to be 1 of X casinos and adding one more changes the deal.

Yes, aren't there restrictions on how many casinos/"gaming" establishments can be in an area? In PA, that is.

Was that the wording of the deal? Or was only one license offered? Anything to preclude the offering another group a casino?

Can't be that hard unless it violates PA law or the state is very reluctant to grant casinos.

The state law is 14 casinos of which seven had to be at horse tracks and two had to be resorts. And only one of the five remaining was supposed to be in Pittsburgh. Even within those confines, there has been litigation when somebody tries to open a casino close to another as happened when somebody tried to put a 'resort' casino at Valley Forge.

It's not impossible but given the environment I think unlikely...for the time being.

I think the Philly area does have another casino. Up it to 15 if need be.

It doesn't solve the transportation issue. The feedback I have received from friends attending conventions in Pittsburgh is that the city is tough to navigate by both walking and driving and parking is a mess. As I have mentioned repeatedly, there is no short and easy access to the airport.

Nobody goes to casinos under 60. They aren't a cool place to hang out. The average age of a gambler is 46. It would be a waste of tax dollars to have two casinos in town.

My friend from another state attended one of the smaller "bookish" conventions downtown. He was in lectures all day. The only places he visited were small restaurants, where I met him, then went and crashed.

Some people seem to have a Hangover stereotype tied in with conventions. That isn't the case. Most of these events come with long days after a day of tedious travel.
