I think fish sandwiches should be the archetypical Pittsburgh sandwich.
I favor the Oyster House Columbo

Or, maybe an Italian hoagie.

It's already been established that that cannot happen until NFL pre-game shows start showing up in Market Sq. instead of Primantis.

This thread has officially made me want a hot sausage sandwich for lunch today, somewhere Downtown. Any suggestions?

I'll enjoy a sandwich today in memory of Warren Zevon. It will not be from Primanti.

I think this is, amazingly, the only place I HAVEN'T been on E. Ohio... and it looks great. I may actually have to take a 1, 2, 4 or 6 over there on my lunch break today and run back to work with a sandwich! Thanks for the suggestion.

For lunch yesterday, I went to Sienna Mercato (942 Penn Avenue) and enjoyed a meatball sandwich with marinara sauce. Extremely delicious and not expensive, maybe cheaper than Primanti's (Primanti's menu doesn't show prices). If it had been open when she was here, this is the place Lidia should have recommended. Warren would have enjoyed it, I feel certain. I guess I have to eat a meatball sandwich at Primanti's now, if I'm going to pontificate honestly. Home | Sienna MercatoSienna Mercato | Good. Times. Another place with a great meatball sandwich is Legends of the North Shore, kind of an Italian upscale diner with only a hint of sportsabilia. http://www.legendsatthenorthshore.com/

Today, I'll enjoy another sandwich, a brgr at BRGR after I vote.

It is worth the trip from town, you can call ahead. The meatball hogies are homemade, they use sliced ribeye for the steak and cheese. I am not a fan of their baked ham. Years ago they used a spiral cut ham that was great, but i guess it was too pricey. North Shore Delicatessen - North Side - Pittsburgh | Urbanspoon
