Was enjoying some NPR this evening while cooking dinner and there was a really interesting session about gentrification on Marketplace....

Not much of a discussion but rather an information share.

My favorite part was when they were interviewing the owners of the liquor store, and they said people keep coming in and asking for Rye which they had never heard of before.

Can't find the segment where they talk about this. Is rye a fancy drink here or something? Rye's popular with people of my parents' demographic group where I come from in Canada, which is low income and blue collar. Rye and ginger ale is an extremely popular drink. Not very fancy.

I don’t consider it really fancy, since you can get a pretty decent one for around $27 a bottle, but it’s popularity has grown dramatically in the past few years...
